About The Event

Join ITE for a night about the importance of mental health with two professional therapists who are also young adults! Two talks and appetizers provided. Event is FREE.

Talk One: Getting Out of Your Head and Into Your Life

By Mark Cook, MA, LPCC

We often find ourselves stuck in unhelpful ways of thinking and acting and not moving towards what matters. Licensed professional clinical counselor and Franciscan University Grad, Mark Cook will discuss ways to become unstuck, become more flexible, and begin to live a life that is rich and meaningful.

Talk Two: Depression and Sloth

By Matthew Brandon, LPCC, LICDC

In recent decades, clinical depression rates have steadily risen, with a notable surge since the onset of the 2020 pandemic. As awareness of depression has expanded, it has become a recognized concept not only in broader society but also within Christian communities. Yet, what exactly is depression? How does it differ from sadness, mourning, or being "poor in spirit"? Moreover, how does clinical depression intersect with spiritual struggles such as acedia, despondency, despair, and sloth? These important topics and more will be explored by Matthew Brandon, LPCC, LICDC, a dedicated clinical counselor and practicing Orthodox Christian.
